Prevention measures

• Reduce bright outdoor lights. Bright outdoor lights at night attract all kinds of bugs like moths, flies, and june bugs. And of course, anything that can be caught in a web is an excellent snack. By reducing outdoor lights, you reduce a spider’s food supply as well.
• Maintain your yard. There are two main strategies this entails. Keeping organic matter off of your home will discourage insects (and as a results spiders) from finding places to live. This includes Trimming grass, pulling weeds, and removing other debris so it doesn’t touch a building. A second strategy is caulking any outside openings where spiders may live.
• Vacuum your home. Using a vacuum cleaner, target hard to reach corners and spaces to remove spiders, webs, and egg sacs from inside the home. Immediately empty the vacuum into a sealed bag or outside trash can when finished vacuuming spiders.
• Check stored fabrics. Be careful when you bring out shoes, clothes, towels, and linens which have been stored and undisturbed for a long period of time. Before use, shake out or wash the items to prevent spiders from infesting your home.
